How To Make A Steampunk Pocket Watch Etsy Style!

For starters, you can start with a plain and simple Steampunk pocket watch. The metallic color could be silver, gold, bronze, basically anything you would like. Now, if you want to make the best out of your customization process, you will need to buy certain charms and decorations from eBay, Etsy, or you could also go to your local antique or art shop and see if there are accessories to add.

If you are looking for skeleton and mechanical pocket watches, or maybe a combination of both, this path is ideal. You can change your watch with resin, stickers, a clearer glass type (or tinted glass), or the depiction of an octopus, a locomotive, several cogs and gears, a friendly skeleton, a pumpkin, a withering Lady of the Night flower, etc.

Engraving, on the other hand, is also a great way to personalize your pocket watch: you could add your favorite quote, a famous name, or your own initials. You could also embed jewels if you ask your local jewelers. You should also keep an eye on local auctions or selling events near your place.

Remember that references help the creators a lot. If you have a specific design in mind that you would like to appear in your pocket watch, bring the best picture you can find of it to the creator. This way, you will make sure that both of you are on the same page, and you will find better results if you provide the most accurate depiction possible.

We know these are a lot of options and personalization can get a bit overwhelming. But, don’t over stress yourself - an authentic Steampunk connoisseur and explorer would go to the ends of the Earth to craft his unique pocket and set his own style and brand!

How To Make A Steampunk Pocket Watch Necklace For Women

If you are looking to wear your Steampunk pocket watch as a necklace, you absolutely can. In fact, a lot of people do it.

You could simply buy a necklace chain, and then attach said chain to your pocket watch – and voilà! You have a very creative and unique necklace. It’s granted that most people will remember that you wore this as an accessory. These can be worn with basically anything: dresses, formal and informal attires, or casual clothes. You don’t even have to be in your full Steampunk persona to be wearing them.

The pocket watches that can be used as necklaces can be of the small and vintage type, like these ones, or you can simply choose the ones of the average size - you should really base this decision on how comfortable you find the typical size as a necklace, especially if you are going to wear it for a long time. You could also check your local charity shop for more available options.

Whether you are looking to add a pocket watch to your Steampunk-themed Wedding or directly want to cosplay a character from a BBC TV show, you will find plenty of examples in the Internet of how to include your brand new pocket watch as part of the attire of your favorite character. The added pocket watch is not only to make the cosplay look ‘Steampunk-ish’; oftentimes enthusiasts do an almost complete makeover of the character to truly make it look like it was directly created in this universe. A Steampunk Pocket Watch Is Great With A Halloween Costume

Some Steampunk enthusiasts are not content with the mere historical allusions that are frequented in the community; they prefer, let’s say, a scarier and spookier look. They grab the Steampunk aesthetic and make it darker, even gorier, sometimes. And this, of course, works perfectly for Halloween.

But the Halloween make over doesn’t include just attires. If you are a makeup enthusiast, or if you are considering starting to go through this path, Steampunk has given a huge set of new ideas to try on yourself or your friends.

You can combine the already known terrifying Halloween make up with the nostalgic Steampunk look and get a perfect, brand new aesthetic. You can use your make up to simulate the colors of the Steampunk palette or to draw items on your face such as cogs, gears, keys – practically anything. You can also paint your face to look as an automaton, a robot, or a monster.

Here are some pictures that you can use as inspiration:

2020.10.16 18:22 funky_unky I penned a letter to my Conservative family members laying out reasons the president is unfit

Please feel free to use at your discretion, fingers crossed I do not get written out of a will but you have to stand up for something. VOTE PEOPLE! WE GOT THIS!

I’ve been working on this letter for some time now and last night I felt truly inspired. I saw the drastic differences between the two candidates and for the first time in four years I felt hope. Hope for this country. Hope that we, as Americans, can decide to elect a humble, respectable human into the office in our land. One candidate is trying to unite us and work together to fight this pandemic and hardships everyday Americans face. The other is a divisive man trying to tear us further apart and take this country down a dark path with ideas and policies that benefit only the most fortunate elites. The differences are stark and all you have to do is look at the demeanors of the two town halls last night.. One was civil with questions actually being thoughtfully answered and details into actual policies that will be implemented in the next four years while trying to relate with voters who are truly trying to decide who to choose in this incredibly important election. The other was another incoherent rambling of a man clearly losing his grip on reality, only attacking questions asked with no substance in any answers and who’s incapable of relating to the everyday American. One man took responsibility for all previous choices/policies that had unintended consequences and owned up to not having foresight into them, looking to continue conversation and understand hardships people face, while the other was completely defensive and continued the tiresome rhetoric of “it’s everyone against him” and again, taking no responsibility at all for the suffering we all face in these uncertain times. It’s honestly exhausting and I feel inspired that soon, I will not have to wake up and worry about our standing in the world and the future of this country. I hope you can see things below with an open mind and continue a dialog so we can see through our differences in the future. Love you all!
Dear Friends and Family,
I usually refrain from discussing politics with family members and close friends but I am too concerned to not reach out and give a bit of insight of what is currently at stake for my future and the future of generations to come. It is not my intent to attack anyone’s personal and political affiliation, but to address serious concerns on behalf of all us, as Americans, moving forward. I apologize in advance for anything offensive below but I am tired, I am frustrated, I am sick of waking up every day and wondering how our president is going to ruin our reputation as a country even further today and frankly, I am sick of this administration’s constant lies and gaslighting. I have tried to base everything below in facts so if you find something patently false, please let me know!
Currently, too many Americans are protesting against heinous acts of racially motivated police violence, a pandemic continues to ravage the country and yet our current president acts as if he is the one that is being treated unfairly. He continues to incite racial tension and violence across the country while sowing doubts, with zero evidence, that our country is capable of conducting a free and fair election. He persists to publicly downplay the seriousness of the Coronavirus, uses a racially suggestive name (China virus) and his ideas on how to combat it are a source of global embarrassment. Since contracting it, he has shown zero remorse over the humans that have perished and were not provided the socialized healthcare and medicine that his “GOP” is vehemently opposed to. All this while it comes out that the man does not pay any income tax. He is literally grifting off of the United States of America.
Our President has taken one of the most respected countries in the history of the modern world and made us look like incompetent fools. Our president failed us in providing a leadership role when the pandemic hit. He candidly admitted that he intentionally “played down the seriousness of the virus” as he knew this would hurt his political future. Nevertheless, he wants all praise for the minimal work he has actually done and “takes no responsibility at all” for the millions now who are suffering or dead due to his inadequate action. Publicly he downplays the seriousness of it and has since told people to “not be afraid of COVID” and not to let it “control their lives”. He’s right that it can no longer control the lives of the 220,000 Americans now dead because of it. Behind closed doors it is apparently a different story as he admits to how serious this pandemic truly is and how it is impacting everyone. Is that how you want a leader to act? I get that he does not want to incite panic in the American people but this is a very serious situation and we need someone in office who actually listens to doctors and does not just wing it on his own beliefs and cares only for the stock market. Are we not a strong enough country that we need our government to mislead us about the seriousness of a worldwide pandemic? America is supposed to be a world leader in times of trouble and now we are literally laughed at on a world stage. The president has failed to lead our nation during the worst pandemic in a century. He has prioritized his re-election and self-gain over the lives of more than 220,000+ Americans. How does one defend that?
In November, this country will elect a new president and send a new congress to Washington. This election is about the soul of America as much as it’s direction. The policies which Trump supports, and the vitriol and constant lies which he spouts at every opportunity, are causing long term damage to the United States. His shortsighted approach is not based on reason or science, it is based entirely on vindictiveness and anything the president believes will help him personally. Anything which Barack Obama did, Trump feels he must undo. One of the things which Trump “undid” was President Obama’s pandemic response team and took scientists out of China which were studying the exact origins of COVID. Perhaps if that team existed in January of this year, we would be like most other organized and developed countries and have a MUCH better grasp on this virus and be more focused on economic recovery instead of attacking every single city, state, or local official who disagrees with him. How is it that, 7 months into this pandemic, a breakout happens at the White House and they will not contact trace it or even investigate where it came from and how it spread? Why was that not their number one priority? The truth is, this administration does not care about the American People one bit.
What kind of president sends out tweets claiming his own states are “Going to hell”? What is that? How is that leading and uniting a country? America needs to heal and we need someone who has even a little bit of compassion to lead. I do not believe that our current president has an ounce of sympathy in him and he puts this on display almost daily. The #1 priority of the leader of a country is to protect it’s citizens and hundreds of thousands of Americans have now unnecessarily died under Trump and his inadequate national response to this pandemic. It’s understandable how covid is slower and less dramatic than a terrorist attack, but nonetheless, Trump failed to protect us due to his own negligence and ego. The worst part is he knew how serious this virus was back in January/February when he was publicly calling it another “democratic hoax”.
How will history view this failure of leadership? The president is unfit. Countless former White House appointees and staffers, both civilian and military, have cited scores of examples of the president being temperamentally, experientially, and intellectually unfit to be president. How does one overlook this? Are we not to believe the men and women who are putting their life on the line to defend this country and instead support someone who dodged the draft at least 4-5 times and does not have a single family member that has served our country? He has called war heroes “losers” and doesn't understand how anyone could give up their life for their country. This most likely stems from his posh lifestyle and growing up with everything he could ever imagine given to him with a silver spoon. The man has never sacrificed anything for anyone. Instead he is a conman who looks to take advantage of anyone and everyone he can. This is a man that ordered the clearing out of peaceful protesters in front of the White House with tear gas and force only to go stand in front of a church (which he never attends) and hold up a bible (which he has never read). I don’t understand what this man has to do for people to see through his hogwash. What happened to our constitution? He falsely claims the left wants to “Abolish the 2nd Amendment” when he has literally zero issue with violating the first amendment in his own front lawn.
Four more years of Trump means the perpetuation of a policing culture which sees African Americans killed for minor infractions because of their skin color. Police should not be judge, jury, and executioner. The president has failed to engage in the dialog on racial injustice that has captivated the nation. Instead, he is actively widening the divisions in our country and promoting white supremacist tropes by telling them to “stand by.” He has a pattern of refusing to condemn hate groups and conspiracy theorists that support him and instead of listening to people of color hurting in these uncertain times, he tear-gasses them and calls them all “thugs”. How does this help unite a country? Black lives matter. All lives cannot matter until black ones do.
The president has praised murderous dictators while attacking our democratically elected allies, both locally and abroad. He rewards totalitarians with friendship and summits while extorting our partners in NATO, the UN, and the WHO. How does that enhance our national security? The president viciously attacks anyone who criticizes him, including allies, friends, appointees, elected officials, and staffers. He routinely and unapologetically makes racist, misogynistic, and xenophobic comments and labels his enemies with childish and offensive nicknames. Would you want your children or grandchildren to imitate such behavior? Are these the qualities you want in a leader? We need people in Washington who are willing and able to reach across the aisle and not call their opponents “monsters”. How do we expect anything to get done with a completely unhinged provocateur who doesn’t understand the meaning of the words “self-made man.”
I fear that if Mr. Trump is given four more years in office, it will do irreparable harm to our country and to the future lives of your children and grandchildren. Four more years of Trump normalizes a culture where sexual assault is OK as long as the person doing the assaulting is famous. The amount of sexual abuse allegations against this man is completely repulsive and it seems a new allegation comes out every 3-4 months. If you care about your sisters, daughters, granddaughters, mothers, friends, or any human being, this should have been enough from the onset to prove that this man is unfit to serve as president of the United States. Why would Trump be actively and aggressively refuse to provide his DNA in rape and sexual abuse cases against him that would totally exonerate him if he was innocent? Do you want to support a man who was good friends and attended parties with Jefferey Epstein and all the atrocious acts that he was involved in? Do you want to support a man who does not believe women when they take the incredibly strong step of coming forward and confronting their abuser? Are we not supposed to believe these women? When credible accusations surface, Trump and all his enablers in the GOP do everything in their power to silence these powerful women. On the flip side, back in 2018, directly after the midterms and when Democrats regained the house, sexual assault accusations came out against Senator Al Franken which were over 10 years old. What did the man do? He resigned. He did not remember if the allegations were true or not but he chose to believe the woman and took responsibility for his actions. Franken was a Progressive icon and fought for people from all backgrounds. It was a major blow to the Democratic party but he saw that there were credible allegations and accepted that. If you honestly believe anyone in the Republican senate would do the same, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you. This is not the same GOP that it was even 5 years ago. That GOP at least had some interest of middle and lower class Americans in mind. The last 2 republican nominees and the last republican president don't support this president and his re-election. That is mind blowing. The “Republican” party has become a cult that revolves around pledging loyalty to someone who acts like a repugnant dictator. We need a leader in the White House who is willing to listen to both sides and do what is best for ALL Americans, not just those on the left or right.
Do we want a president who sleeps with porn stars while his wife and infant are at home? Then pays the porn star hush money and lies about it to the American People? Is this what America wants in a leader?
President Obama was relentlessly attacked for lacking transparency, yet Trump is actively blocking testimony, hides his taxes, and conducts meetings with authoritarian leaders in secret. If someone is innocent and has a clean, honest, record, why would he feel the need to do any of this? What if Obama, or any Democratic politician, blocked testimony or if he refused to show their taxes? I’m sure you would be furious, and rightly so. We can’t let our principles become compromised when our guy is in office. The double standard in our political environment needs to end. Why would Trump still be actively and vehemently trying to hide his taxes if he is an honest man with nothing to hide? The man is clearly compromised by something or someone.
Do you remember the photo of an El Salvadoran man and his two and a half year-old daughter who drowned as they fled the violence in their home country, hoping to seek a new life in America? They died because Trump wouldn’t let them claim asylum at the border entry points. He denied them the safety and promise that America used to stand for. Imagine if we were not as blessed as we were to be born into privilege and were forced to flee our homes. You have this dream of a better life where anything is possible but when you reach this promise land you are told that you can not seek shelter there as a man who was born with a golden spoon thinks that you are not welcome and you should go back to your “shithole country”.
I strongly believe in comprehensive immigration reform and that people should "wait their turn" and immigrate here legally. So let's reform our immigration policy to help expedite the process so human beings and refugees don’t have to take the extremely dangerous trip to try to get to the US illegally. We also have an administration that is constantly violating human rights of these people looking for a better life. They rip children away from their families without any contact and recently it was unveiled that doctors are performing unwanted hysterectomies on detainees. This practice is rooted in ethnic cleansing, how is any of this acceptable? We are on a destructive path to repeat the faults of some of the darkest days of modern history again and I do not want to be associated with any enablers of this. Clearly this path is untenable and a different path must be taken so we can all move forward and truly have checks and balances in our political system.
You say you don’t like all the dramatics of his twitter and some of his actions but you support him for his conservative policies and the economy. I am curious as to which of the policies, that Trump himself has been proactive on, you agree with? The “Largest middle class tax cut ever”? As a member of society that falls directly into the heart of the middle class; want to know what sort of cut I got? 1.4%, or about $1,000. Is that worth the $3 TRILLION that it cost towards our national debt? I see myself as fiscally conservative and even vote for conservative candidates if I align with them, but the GOP is no longer the party of fiscal responsibility that we used to know. I would much rather have seen that $1,000 go to people in actual need of assistance. Is it so hard and are people so selfish that having universal healthcare is considered a radical idea? Should people not be able to get help when they are sick, or cannot support a family on minimum wage? I thought we lived in the land of opportunity.
There is no denying that before COVID hit, the economy was doing fantastic and maybe even was the strongest it has ever been. How is it, then, that we have a record amount of debt and this administration was still incapable of balancing a budget? If the economy was so strong, we would have been able to cut into our record high national debt. Instead, the president is only looking to line the pockets of his friends and fellow cronies. In 2016, Trump said he would balance our budget and eliminate our national debt since he’s the “greatest businessman ever.” Instead our debt by the end of his term will be more than 50% higher than it was under Obama. He cares about no one but himself. This was very noticeable at the first debate between him and Biden. Did you notice the difference in tone? Joe was there to (try to) speak to the American people, to convince them to vote for decency in America. He was ready to lay out policy and ideas that the American people deserve to hear, instead he was bullied from the onset. The president would not let him answer any questions and insulted his recovered and deceased children. Not once did Trump try to speak to his citizens, he was only focused on distraction and attacking Joe Biden. Is that leadership? It was a disgrace. That was one of the saddest days for America in a long long time as the rest of the world laughs at our government’s ineptitude.
Trump took our favorable economy, riding years of incredible growth from the previous administration, and did what he historically does with any business he touches and destroyed it. He is clearly not totally to blame as a pandemic hit but there is no arguing we are recovering and dealing with this much slower and more incompentanly than other similar countries. This is directly relates to his failed response and incompetence to deal with a worldwide issue.
On healthcare Trump continues to say he wants to repeal and replace Obamacare and he has not only failed to repeal, he has no plan to replace it with any sort of plan. We have been told that it is in the works for ELEVEN YEARS now with the GOP providing nothing of substance. He also claims that he'll protect those with pre-existing conditions from being denied health insurance but currently has a case going to the supreme court to get rid of just that. COVID will soon be a pre-existing condition which will impact another 8 MILLION+ citizens. You cannot trust anything this man says. How is that a quality you want in a leader? Myself and the majority of my friends / colleagues have never had this little faith in our government.
You say you have hope there is a “Silent Majority” that will show up and keep this atrocious man in power. I have hope that this country is better than that and sees through all of his gaslighting and lies. This is a man that cheats at everything he does. He unabashedly has cheated on all 3 of his wives, multiple times. It has been well documented that he cheats at golf, which in my mind, is one of the best ways to see the integrity of a person and how honest they truly are. He also has an abysmal track record as a businessman, trying to stiff honest workers and contractors out of their deserved contracts. His consistent plan of attack is to hit them with so many delays and lawsuits that they eventually either just give up or go bankrupt. How can anyone trust this man to do anything except what is best for himself?
All of this is why I am asking you to consider two simple things, for the sake of your family and generations to come:
1.) Consider supporting Joe Biden. He is far from a perfect candidate and the DNC has its own deeply rooted problems, I know, but this is about the future of our country, democracy, and the treatment of all humans. A vote for Joe Biden is not necessarily a vote for Biden, but rather a repudiation of this new GOP that now has no regard for rules, laws, debt or foreign policy.
2.) Turn off Fox News and all other right-wing propaganda. Fox is the mouthpiece and amplifier for Trump’s hatred. It is a wedge which seeks to divide America and to spread the president’s disinformation.
I am always looking for engaged conversation on this and want to understand how people can still support this man, so open dialogue is strongly encouraged here. What policies of his do you directly support? Are those enough to give up your dignity and vote for a man who brags about assaulting women and refuses to disavow white supremacists while pushing conspiracy theories and furthering the divide in this country that he’s helped sow? Please, help me understand. Do you want to vote for someone who is a devout catholic and attends mass every Sunday or a false prophet who claims to be a Christian and yet cannot recite a single verse that reverberates with him, has never asked for forgiveness, and does not regularly attend church while mocking religion behind closed doors? The difference in cadence and demeanor between the two candidates is drastic. Do you want a leader who is poised and calm when asked tough questions and is willing to admit past mistakes with perspective on actual impacts his decisions make? Or do you want someone in the highest office in this land to only attack, interrupt, and go on the defensive when someone’s views don’t align exactly with his own? I know I will be voting for decency and a bright future and not for bigotry and division this month so I ask you all of this out of love, for your friends, your family, your children, and your grandchildren’s sake, please please please do not vote for Trump.

2020.08.18 04:21 Sageburner712 Every historical event mentioned in Video 1 (1961-62)

Clip 1: Chet Huntley, NBC News anchor gives a report on the following:
-Algiers Putch of 1961: Beginning 21 April 1961, Several French generals attempted a coup to force President Charles DeGaulle to reverse any sovereignty given to French Algeria. It should be noted that part of the resolution to this would be DeGaulle giving a persuasive speech on TV asking the French people for their support.
-Laotian Civil War:
--On roughly the same day (22 April Lao time, 21 April French/ Algerian time) Lao Government troops were driven from a stronghold at the Plain of Jars. Part of their defeat was due to a suspension of covert US air support (Project HOTFOOT) caused by the failure of the Bay of Pigs. On this day, a special forces team was overrun attempting to prevent communist forces from taking a strategic junction. After this, tactics were changed to CIA and Special Forces (Green Beret) training of local forces.
2: Kennedy (Speech dated 6 Oct 1960) states on the campaign trail his belief that "In the 1960s, the United States can once again capture the imagination of the world." Two notes: This is slightly outside the timeframe designated by the tape label, and the idea of "capturing the imagination" may relate to mind control themes mentioned in other analyses and clips.
3: Snowstorm in Chicago. Possibly April 1961, at roughly the same time as the events mentioned in clip 1. If so, this snowfall was the largest in Chicago's history so late in the year. San Francisco snowfall mentioned immediately after is likely from Jan 62, though the brief separation of the clips makes it unclear whether these are the same or different newsreels. Note the narrator makes mention of the children being confused at first, but "soon they learn what to do."
4: Kennedy Inauguration 20 Jan 61. One of his most famous speeches, inspired James Meredith (see below)
-Also clips of Nixon and Carter inaugs so far. Distortion on "So help me God."
5: British PM speaks with JFK about Laos
-March 61. Policy differences regarding prosecution of Lao Civil War. UK risked getting dragged into the escalation of the war due to PMs willingness to continue involvement.
6: Soviet minister is asked about Lao ceasefire. Says he cannot comment. If anyone knows who this is or what the date or other circumstances are, please let me know.
7: Paris fashions. "Where Paris goes, the world follows"
8: Construction of Berlin Wall 13 Aug 61
9, 10: Berlin Crisis, 4 Jun- 9 Nov 61
11: Cuban military parade and demands regarding Guantanamo Bay, 1 Jan 61
12: JFK Man on Moon speech, 25 May 61
13: Bay of Pigs prep. B-26 is loaded. See reference on Clip 1 regarding effect on Project HOTFOOT in Laos.
14: Bay of Pigs, US involvement is exposed
15: Bay of Pigs, US Ambassador Adlai Stevenson denies US involvement
16: Jackie Kennedy speaks to BoP volunteers
17: BoP- diplomatic fallout
18: Vostok 1 flight 12 Apr 61
19: Freedom 7 flight 5 May 61
20: Freedom 7 recovery
21: Albany Movement- MLK involvement began 15 Dec 61. I could not easily place the specific date of this report.
22: Tsar Bomba test 30 Oct 61
23: James Meredith, inspired by JFK Inaug speech (rf. Clip 4), attempts to register at Ole Miss. Wanted to pressure JFK into more civil rights support. Estimated newsreel date 20 Sept 61.
24: Riots at Ole Miss in response. 29 Sept 61
25: Edwin Walker is arrested with other segregationist rioters. If I had to put money on one clip being underlooked in this video, it's this one. Walker was absolutely batshit, a segregationist who had commanded federal troops at Little Rock and later expressed his regret during this incident at Ole Miss. Called Harry Truman and Eleanor Roosevelt "Pink" (Communist). Violated Hatch act by attempting to influence the voting preferences of his troops. Forced to resign by JFK. Target of attempted assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald only a few months before JFK assassination. I'd put money on this guy being an antagonist.
26: James Meredith interview.
27: Congo Crisis. Could not put a date. Possibly Late November of 60 or 61- though the politician referenced at the start of the clip, Patrice Lumumba, was murdered 17 Jan 61. Possibly therefore outside of claimed scope of video.
28: Vienna Summit. 4 Jun 61. Berlin crisis, Lao Civil War, and BoP all discussed. JFK felt humiliated by discussion and thought he needed to draw a "line in the sand" against communism- that line being drawn in Vietnam.
29: Eleanor Roosevelt funeral. 10 Nov 62. Upstate New York. I'll mention here that even though it isn't mentioned anywhere in this video, and it's not very close to any mentioned locations within New York State, the apocryphal mind- control experiments done at Montauk Island, NY in the early Cold War may show up. If they don't, that'll be a pretty boneheaded whiff by the CoD team, I think.
30: "We choose to go to the moon" speech. 12 Sept 62.
31: Honest John missile clip. Honest John was the first US nuclear- armed Surface- to- surface missile. Also available with poison gas warheads.
32: Kennedy tour of Redstone Arsenal. 11 Sept 62.
33: "Flash Crash" of Dec 61- Jun 62. Investors were reassured after public statements by business leaders, but stocks would not fully recover and stabilize til after Cuban Missile Crisis.
34: Chang Kai- Shek celebrates 50th anniversary of 1911 Chinese Revolution. Likely 10 Oct 61.
35: Kruschev speech. Possibly outside of stated timeframe at December 1960?
36: Castro declares himself a communist. 2 Dec 61.
37: Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy informs the nation. 22 Oct 62.
38: Chet Huntley again. I suspect the same day's report as in Clip 1. Can a democracy effectively conduct subversive warfare?
39: Tv bit about fashion again. Another upstate NY location (Forest Garden). I suspect advertising will have some role in the mind- control part of the plot (which makes the Mountain Dew advert inclusions very heeky)
40: Trafalgar Square (London) demonstrations against blockade of Cuba. Late Oct 62.
41: Bay of Pigs reference. Possibly Pre- invasion, though it could be during CMC and preparations for expected invasion, which did not materialize.
42: Chinese invasion of India. 20 Oct- 21 Nov 62. Occurred during CMC. Fighting was in the winter in the Himalayas, so I expect this is where those mountains we're seeing in promo images are. Expect a level here.
43: Clip about reenforcement of Guantanamo Bay, likely during BoP or CMC.
44: Adlai Stevenson at UN Security Council meeting during CMC.
45: Centenary of President Lincoln's Inaug. Technically the fourth presidential Inauguration we have a reference to over the as- yet released clips. Roughly 4 Mar 61.
46: Message from JFK to Kruschev, likely after CMC but possibly after Berlin Crisis.
47: Likely the same clip as Clip 44.
48: Resolution of CMC.
49: Helicopters used for training in Vietnam. We're getting a heli mission, I bet.
50: JFK visits Vandenberg AFB in California. 23 Mar 62.
END CLIPS
The 1968- 69 video has been handed off to my erstwhile partner in this unnecessary endeavour, u/Citizen_Montag. God have mercy on him. I'm going to start on 72-73 now. Hope this all helps, especially with u/LunarRepub1c's side of things. Let me know if there's anything else you all noticed or have thoughts on!

2020.08.16 05:41 D491234 Book on Roman Catholics in Hong Kong with at least 5 people who have served in the Hong Kong Government

Book on Roman Catholics in Hong Kong with at least 5 people who have served in the Hong Kong Government
There is a book on Hong Kong Roman Catholics, there are at least 5 people in the book who have served in the Hong Kong Government, in this thread those individuals will be exposed as some of them are in the Pro-Beijing Movement which are supporters of the Jesuit controlled Chinese Communist Party and the Hong Kong Democracy Movement which is also controlled by the Jesuits and Roman Catholic Church, the individuals are:
Anson Chan 陳方安生 (Former Hong Kong colonial administrator and Hong Kong Democracy Movement member)
Anson Chan 陳方安生
Anson Maria Elizabeth Chan Fang On-sang GBM GCMG (hon.)CBE JP(born 17 January 1940 in Shanghai) was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for Hong Kong Island, succeeding the late legislator Ma Lik. Before running for LegCo, she served as the head of Hong Kong's civil service before and after the territory's handover to the People's Republic of China from British colonial rule. Noted for her poise and smile, she was the first woman and the first Chinese to hold the second-highest governmental position in Hong Kong. Since November 2005 she has identified herself with the pro-democracy camp, and won the December 2007 by-election for the Hong Kong Island seat in the Legislative Council, as an independent. Born one of twins in Shanghai, China, Anson Chan was educated at Hong Kong's Sacred Heart Canossian College (formerly known as Italian Convent School and Sacred Heart School) and the University of Hong Kong. She also studied at Tufts University in Massachusetts in the United States.
The Sacred Heart Canossian College is a Roman Catholic School in Hong Kong.
Donald Tsang 曾蔭權
Donald Tsang 曾蔭權
Tsang was born in Hong Kong on 7 October 1944 to a Hong Kong police officer. His family ancestry is from Guangdong Foshan. He spent his childhood living in the Hollywood Road Police Married Quarters in Central, Hong Kong. After completing his secondary education at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong, a Jesuit school in Hong Kong, he worked briefly as a salesman at US drug company Pfizer Inc. before joining the civil service.
Tsang joined the Civil Service as an Executive Officer in January 1967 and held many positions dealing with local administration, finance, trade and policies relating to the return of Hong Kong to China. In 1977, Tsang was attached to the Asian Development Bank in Manila for a year and worked on water supply and railway development projects in the Philippines and Bangladesh. He was subsequently sent by the government to complete a master's degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government of the Harvard University in 1981.
Tsang was responsible for implementing the Sino-British Joint Declaration, signed in 1984 to decide the Hong Kong's sovereignty to be transferred to China in 1997, and the promotion of the British Nationality Selection Scheme as Deputy Secretary of the General Duties Branch between 1985 and 1989. In 1989, he was appointed Director of Administration to oversee the functioning of the Government Secretariat. In 1991 he became Director-General of Trade and in charge of all facets of trade negotiation and administration affecting Hong Kong. In May 1993, he was promoted to Secretary for the Treasury, responsible for the overall resource allocation, the taxation systems and the cost effectiveness of the Hong Kong government.
In September 1995, Tsang was appointed Financial Secretary, becoming the first Chinese to hold the position in 150 years of colonial history. He went on to become the first Financial Secretary in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 1 July 1997. Shortly before the handover, he was knighted by Prince Charles at the Government House in June 1997. During his term as Financial Secretary, Tsang coined the term "caring capitalism" in 1996, which describe the governments's approach of giving priority to economic growth and then using the new-found wealth to develop social infrastructure and welfare services. Hong Kong's public spending grew steadily as public revenue remained robust and government budget in surplus. Public expenditure to GDP rose to as high as 23%, though still the lowest among developed economies. He also approved a raise in civil servants' salaries at the beginning of the Asian economic crisis. The salary raise was finally reversed, aligning civil servants' salaries to 1997 levels.
Tsang was known for his role in defending the Hong Kong dollar's peg to the US dollar during the Asian financial crisis in 1998 from attacks by hedge funds led by George Soros who he dubbed "crocodiles". He joined hand with Joseph Yam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and bought over $15 billion in Hong Kong stock to defend Hong Kong's exchange rate and to make the government the biggest shareholder in many blue chip firms. Sir Donald’s action successfully led to the retreat of the hedge funds and earned his reputation internationally.
Audrey Eu 余若薇 (Hong Kong Civic Party founder and Hong Kong Democracy Movement member)
Audrey Eu 余若薇
Audrey Eu was born on 11 September 1953 in Hong Kong. She studied at St. Francis' Canossian College from 1960 to 1970 and matriculated from St. Paul's Co-educational College in 1972.

Notable pupils of hers include Andrew Cheung, permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal. Before entering politics, Eu was the chair of the Hong Kong Bar Association. She shot to prominence on the right of abode issue, at the time of the transfer of sovereignty to the People's Republic of China in 1997, she held a firm stance against the interpretation of the Hong Kong Basic Law by the National People's Congress. In 2011, she was awarded an honorary fellowship by the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She stood for and was returned in the Hong Kong Island geographical constituency for the 2008 Hong Kong legislative election. She was placed second on the Civic Party ticket, behind newcomer Tanya Chan, who was also elected. After deducting the quotient required for the first seat, the remainder to Eu was only 30,362, enable Eu to win a seat in the constituency with the lowest number of vote. She got 525 votes less than her former running mate in the 2004 election Cyd Ho.
However, Eu lost her seat in the Legislative Council in September 2012.
Christine Loh 陸恭蕙
Christine Loh 陸恭蕙

In the period leading up to the handover, Leung advised the Chief Executive Designate of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on legal matters relating to the establishment of the HKSAR.
Secretary for Justice
On 1 July 1997, Leung became the first Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, replacing Attorney General Jeremy Mathews. Martin Lee 李柱銘
Martin Lee 李柱銘 with Nancy Pelosi
Martin Lee Chu-ming, SC, JP (Chinese: 李柱銘; born 8 June 1938) is a Hong Kong politician and barrister. He is the founding chairman of the United Democrats of Hong Kong and its successor, the Democratic Party, Hong Kong's flagship pro-democracy party. He was also a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong from 1985 to 1997 and from 1998 to 2008. Nicknamed the "Father of Democracy" in Hong Kong, he is recognised as one of the most prominent advocates for democracy and human rights in Hong Kong and China.
A barrister by profession, Lee served as the chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association from 1980 to 1983. He became involved in discussions over Hong Kong's handover to China, and in 1985 he joined the Hong Kong Basic Law Drafting Committee to assist in the drafting of Hong Kong's Basic Law, the city's mini-constitution post-handover. He was, however, expelled from the body in 1989 in the wake of the 1989 Tiananmen square crackdown, due to his condemnation of the Beijing government's role in the incident and his vocal support for the student protestors. In 1985 he was elected to the Legislative Council, where he advocated strongly for the protection of human rights and democratic reform.
In 1990, he became the founding chairman of the first pro-democracy party in Hong Kong, the United Democrats of Hong Kong, and later its successor, the Democratic Party. Under his leadership, the party won two landslide victories in the direct elections of 1991 and 1995, and emerged as one of the largest political parties in Hong Kong. He worked closely with the last Hong Kong Governor Chris Patten in an attempt to push forward constitutional reform in relation to democratic elections, attracting strong criticism from the Beijing government. In June 1997, he was forced to step down from his office when the colonial legislature was dissolved, alongside a number of other legislators; they later won back their seats in the Legislative Council in 1998.
He stepped down as the chairman of the Democratic Party in 2002, and in 2008 he retired as a member of the Legislative Council. He has remained active in advocating and lobbying for the democratic cause both locally and internationally. Early life, education and legal career
A son of Kuomintang Lieutenant General Lee Yin-wo, Lee was born in Hong Kong on 8 June 1938, his mother having journeyed to the British colony on a vacation. His father fought against the Empire of Japan during the World War II. In 1949, the family moved to Hong Kong after the Communist takeover of China. Lee's father taught at a Jesuit school Wah Yan College, Kowloon for nine years, then taught part time at the Institute of Chinese Studies. His father maintained a good relationship with the Communist leadership, notably Premier Zhou Enlai, who repeatedly invited him back to the Mainland. Lee Yin-wo's funeral in 1989 was attended by people from both sides of the political spectrum.
Martin Lee studied at Wah Yan College, Kowloon and then English Literature and Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong, sponsored by his mentor, the renowned barrister Dr. Patrick Yu. After graduating in 1960, Lee taught for three years before he was sent to England to study law at Lincoln's Inn. He was called to the bar and began practising law in Hong Kong in 1966. During the Hong Kong 1967 Leftist riots, Lee defended the pro-Communist Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions at court, thus laying the foundations of the relationship with the Chinese Communist Party in the future. In 1979, he was made Queen's Counsel. From 1980 to 1983, he was the chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association.

2020.08.06 06:22 Kiwimastur 1984 Orwell Revisited: United States

Im still working on the map but for now I will make individual posts for the 4 main nations, America, Russia, China and Oceania. America has been the easiest to tackle so I was able to make all of this pretty easily. Heres an overview of the United States history and international relations
International relations:
United Nations: The US has very good relations with all UN member states with all being democratic in some way. Canada has been Americas closest partner
Soviet Union: The Soviet Union remains a major threat to the United States, however with American espionage in Europe, Russia has begun losing power over it's satellites and is quickly losing the ability to project power towards the US.
Oceania: The US-Oceania relationship quite literally is cold. After the fall of the UK in the 1940s America cut off relations and after the Rose Revolution which installed the British Communists into power no attempts at relations were made. Once Ingsoc reformed the British Socialist Republic into Oceania they shut themselves off from the world. Oceania does throw empty threats at the United States, mostly due to America's close relationship to the exiled British government in Canada. Oceania's main enemy is Russia and so most of the focus is on them and their never ending war, which is more like skirmishes.
China: China by far has been Americas fiercest adversary. Their industrial might and sheer manpower makes them a legitimate threat to American presence in asia and the pacific. China and Korea continually threaten Japan and the Philippines, both protected by the United States. Its more or less the US-North Korea relationship irl but with a much more capable enemy. Russia is a threat because of nukes, China is a threat because of sheer man and industrial power.
History(Since 1932)
Americas divergence lies in 1932 when Gisueppe Zangara successfully kills Roosevelt in Miami, resulting in the ascension of John Nance Garner to the Presidency. Garner would come to be known as a failure in American politics, he would break off from what Roosevelt promises and He would fail to help the great depression, and actually make it worse. The worsening conditions would result in an all out armed conflict in the rust belt in 1934 where American Socialists rose up and attempted to ignite a civil war by attacking military strongholds, the event known as Night of the bleeding Rose. The American Workers Army was crushed, stopping any attempt at a civil war but Garners reputation was ruined and ended any chance of reelection.
Meanwhile a senator from Louisiana, Huey Long, was gaining power in the Democratic party and launched his Presidential campaign in 1935, beginning what historians note as the "Second American Revolution." Long and the Populist democrats swept the nation and marked the end of the old guard. To further his vision of an "America under one flag" Long took the opportunity to create the "Party for the people" and formed the populist party. This new party gained traction in the democrats but Republicans were cautious of Long, having a fear that he could potentially be a communist sympathizer. Most democrats left with Long, however the strong conservative democrats stayed and fielded their own candidate, former South Carolina governor Strom Thurmond, for the 1936 election. Long handily defeated Long easily defeated Alf Landon, the Republican nominee, and Strom Thurmond, 383(P)-86(R)-62(D).
Long implemented his "Every Man a King" policy which saw an overhaul of the American economy with unforeseen regulations such as a wealth cap. Regardless of their controversy they repaired the American economy and brought them into a new era of economic prosperity where unemployment and homelessness entered record lows. Long preached isolationist policy and engaged in diplomacy with Hitler and the Nazis, with Hitler even visiting Washington DC in 1938. Hitler and Long signed the German-American Non-aggression pact, where long promised to not involve America in European affairs as long as Hitler stayed out of the Americas. Americans, not knowing of the monster Hitler is, actually welcomed the idea believing it would keep them out of the war, however this move would prove fatal to the British who would fall to the German some years later in World War 2 with the lack of allies and supplies.
In contrast to his success with the Germans and Italians, Longs diplomacy failed with the Japanese whom outright threatened the Philippines, American territory at the time. While Long was isolationist he did not tolerate threats and in May of 1939 signed an executive order cutting off oil trade with Japan. In 1940 Long won reelection handily, only losing the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Michigan. Long's popularity was unprecedented and saw records high approval such as 92%. In 1941 the Japanese retaliated to Long's severing of oil to Japan by launching a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, where the very next day, December 8th, long appeared before Congress demanding that they declare war on Japan. Congress voted 388-1 in favor of war in the house and 82-0 in the senate, which began the Pacific War(1941-1946)
The Pacific War went similarly to irl so Ill spare the details, the main change comes in 1945 when President Long decides against using nuclear weapons and orders for operation downfall. General of the Armies, Douglass MacArthur, lead the United States forces to victory in the land invasion of Japan and brought the war to a close in 1946 when the Emperor took control and finally surrendered to America. However due to the land invasion the Soviets were able to roll in and steal Korea, preventing any democratic state on mainland asia.
The post war period saw the biggest radical change in American politics. Long had won reelection in 1944 and was poised to win again in 1948 but seeing as his work was done Long, to the nations surprise, announced he would not seek re-election. The race was wide open and many believed that Vice President Joseph P Kennedy Sr would win the populist nomination, however a fairly popular Southern Democrat was gaining traction nationally and would be a problem for the populists. This was mine other than James F Byrnes, the former secretary of state. Much of the populist parties success with Long was a facade and at the very end Longs approval ratings began to fall, the reveal of atrocities the US had committed in the Pacific War and the economic limits he had put on the economy were becoming a problem. Byrnes was the moderate fiscal conservative compared to Huey Long. Not wanting to split the democratic vote, in wake of a strong Republican candidate, Byrnes, and Kennedy agreed to unite the populist and democratic parties into the Populist-democratic party, with Byrnes as the Presidential nominee and Kennedy as the running mate. This brought back in the conservative democrats who otherwise would vote for the Republicans or Byrnes.
The new Populist-Democrat coalition would defeat Dewey in the close 1948 election. Byrnes would have a decent presidency, he walked back many regulations which Long imposed as to not hold back Americas free enterprise, however he opposed many forms of civil rights in attempt to hold the "Separate but equal" clause which caused him to lose the support of many Liberal Democrats He also was often a little evasive when dealing with the now aggressive Soviet Union and China, losing the support of the swing voters. In 1952 Byrnes retained the populist-democrat nomination defeating Harry Truman but ended up losing the Presidency to war hero and Republican nominee; General Douglass MacArthur.
MacArthur's presidency is remembered as one of the most aggressive in American history. MacArthur took a complete reversal of the isolationist policy and projected American power globally and warning off Chinese and Russian aggressions towards the US and it's allies. The most notable instance came in 1953 when Kim Il Sung, Supreme Commander of Korea, demanded reparations from the Japanese for its occupation and mistreatment of Korea. When the government of Japan refused Kim Il Sung threatened war, which MacArthur responded to by allowing Japan to rebuild its armed forces. To this Kim Ill Sung and Mao Zedong both threatened to invade Japan to preserve 'peace' in mainland asia and told the US to withdraw from asia, MacArthur refused to back down and his resilience and display of power allowed him to win re-election in 1956. The height of tensions came in 1958 when Korea engaged an American patrol group off the coast of Japan, killing the patrol. MacArthur responded by bombing a Korean patrol group in the Korea Straight, according to reports at the time Korea had drafted war articles against the United States but due to the break out of the Sino-Soviet War, Korea was forced to abandon its war with the United States and UN. MacArthur despite being eligible, did not run in 1960 to reinstate the two term tradition, his approval also took a dip. He would be succeeded by another Pacific War hero General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Eisenhower would do most of what he did irl, implementing the interstate-highway system, expanding budgeting to infrastructure and so on. He would gain praise for the successful overthrow of Fidel Castro in the Cuban Civil War, though is was most likely a success do to Russia and China being embroiled in a war. Another big focus of his Presidency was Nasa, being during the space race. Eisenhower would win re-election in 1964 and continue his Presidency, and would be President for the apollo 11 mission.
The 1968 election was gearing up to be the most revolutionary in history. It was the height of the civil rights movement and the first time the children of World War 2 could be eligible for the Presidency. Vice President Richard Nixon emerged the favorite of the Republicans to win the nomination but the democrats had a new and young face. Massachusetts Senator, and son of Former Vice President Joseph Kennedy, John F Kennedy was leading the democratic race. However tragedy would befall the young senator as he would be assassinated at a rally in Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald. The assassination would ultimately lead to the nomination of Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson and Nixon became one of the most competitive elections, Lyndon B Johnson would narrowly win it by carrying his home state of Texas.
Johnson oversaw the most civil rights legislation and achieved equality for Americans of all races. Johnson, like hos predecessors, had an aggressive stance against communism and involved the United States in wars in Africa, and lead the invasion of Nicaragua and was responsible for the assassination of Arnoldo Martínez Verdugo, general secretary of the Mexican Communist party. Johnson honored the two term tradition and did not run for President in 1976. Instead Vice President Hubert Humphrey took up the torch and became the nominee to race against New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller.
Rockefeller would win over Humphrey fairly easily, stealing much of the liberal democrats. Rockefeller further expanded American intervention in Africa and began CIA operations in Europe to disrupt the Soviet Sphere, taking advantage of the already waning power of Moscow. Rockefeller expanded infrastructure however he was claimed as too liberal to many Republicans and vastly expanded the federal debt. In 1979 Rockefeller tragically died from a heart attack resulting in Gerald R Ford's ascension to the Presidency.
Ford was an absolute failure and scaled back American intervention globally, infamously stating "There is no Soviet domination of Europe." Ford would lose the 1980 election to Jimmy Carter. Carter is little to no different story than irl. With less than favorable economic conditions, and the increasing threat of war with China, Carter was ousted by California Governor Ronald Reagan in 1984 by a landslide.

The next two steps we are taking effective tomorrow. These are steps that have been taken in other states. Again they are backed by the federal administration. First we’re going to require bars to close for 2 weeks effective Tuesday July 28th. Our hope is that after those two weeks we can reopen but we will have some new, stricter guidelines. I’ll give you one example, we had a seat rule inside the first set of guidelines. And we are going to have that and enforce that over the coming weeks in restaurants, or in bars that sell food and may stay open. Can you go back to the picture? Here's what we need- if we’re gonna operate these types of facilities- every single person needs to have a seat when they come in, and they need to sit in it. If we don’t wanna spread COVID, the only reason they need to get up is to go to the bathroom. It may look more like a restaurant, it might not be that same bar experience people want, but it’s gonna be necessary if we are going to be open to reopen these facilities. And let me say, there are a LOT of responsible bar owners out there. I’ve had conversations with them. I hate this requirement for them. They’re certainly paying for actions of others, and it’s not fair, but this virus isn’t fair either

2020.07.23 19:19 schaeldieavocado Who are the Andersons? or: Faithful World Baptist Church - an organised hate group (TW: Upsetting content)

I originally had about 10 pages in word for this so AMA if you wann know more. I hope all the links lead to the correct source, because my collection of data was a hot mess and sometimes I forgot to put the link down.
I know it's a sub rule, so it shouldn't need to be stated again, but absolutely do not contact them on social media. For them being hated is a sign of godliness and even if you managed to show them proof that they're wrong, they'd probably believe you're just part of the worldwide shadow government that made that statistic up. Seriously, they are really into conspiracy theories.
I sectioned this post into the following topics: The family - What they are known for - Their religion - Their homo- and transphobia - Their anti-Semitism and Holocaust denying - Raising the children - Gender roles - Home-schooling - Modesty/Dating/Marriage - Reproductive rights - Racism and Slavery
The family
Steven and Zsuzsanna Anderson have 11 Kids: Solomon (18), Isaac (17), John (15), Miriam (13), Rebecca (11), Anna (9), Stephen (7), Boaz (6), Chloe (4), Peter (2) and Eva (born September 2019)[1].
Steven and Zsu met in 1999 when Steven (then 18) was trying to convert heathens in Germany. Zsu (then 20) was not a believer, but since Steven was handsome they wrote each other for months. On July 28th in 2000 she visited Steven and was promptly converted. They married on August 13th that same year and instead of finishing her college degree (cultural anthropology/journalism/political science)[2] she moved to the US in September.[3]
Steven is the pastor of Faithful World Baptist Church, a new independent fundamentalist Baptists (NFIB)[4], KJV only church[5] that is listed as an organised hate group by Southern Poverty Law Center[6].
What they are known for
Steven Anderson is banned from South Africa, the UK, Botswana, Malawi, Jamaica, The Netherlands (and thus the entire Schengen Area), Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand because of his homophobic and anti-Semitic hate speech. The bush fires in Australia were God’s revenge for him being banned from Australia[7].
In one of his sermons, Anderson publicly stated that he’s praying for Obama to die. This was supposed to happen due to brain cancer, so he wouldn’t turn into a martyr. Secret Service was worried enough to contact him.[8]
The three eldest Anderson boys (Solomon, John and Isaac) were part of a group chat that included girls as young as 13. There they shared their fantasies of choking, raping, beating and sodomizing these girls during sex. Solomon shared pictures of himself. There was talk of grooming the girls and they wanted to pay hookers with church funds to have sex with after praying for them. Anderson claims to have handled the punishment at home and banned both the families of the affected girls and church members who brought the topic up. He says it’s a private matter and the boys should be forgiven.[9][10][11] When the Josh Duggar scandal broke, Zsu had different reactions: Paedophiles deserve the death penalty, there was no forgiveness for Josh and it should not have been kept private in order to protect other potential victims.[12] A family that raised Josh is not allowed to pretend to be a moral upstanding Christian family, and bad parenting is the reason he turned out that way.[13] Zsu once stated that she’d stop socialising with her children if they were gay or child molesters or mass murderers.[14]
Solomon had a courtship with a girl called Saer but I don't have a source By 17 Solomon was engaged to a girl named Saer, thanks u/maggiemazz29. From what I have gathered, her parents used to be involved with the porn industry before getting saved, which was apparently the reason the relationship was broken off. However, on their blog there are still many pictures of the two of them together. Solomon seems to have been interested in Saer from when he was 14.[15] There’s a blogpost about him liking a girl and wanting to marry her and she’s described as a good friend. Saer is called his BFF around that time.
Their religion
Despite the fact that they are fundies, they do divide the bible into biblical teachings and stories, the latter only record people doing things without saying they are right, so you don’t have to follow them.[16][17] Earth is 6254 years old, give or take 25 years.[18] Salvation happens through faith alone, no need to repent for sins, though it's nice if you do.[19][20][21] They don’t believe in the prosperity gospel[22], but they don’t have a rainy day fund as God has them covered[23]. The chain of command goes God -> husband -> Wife -> children.[24] Created to be his Help Meet is a good book.[25] They are part of the quiverful movement and believe God should decide how many children you have, even if having more kids might kill you. Evolution and the big bang theory are the same thing and are wrong, and dinosaurs and humans lived at the same time.
Their homo- and transphobia
Steven Anderson celebrated the Orlando nightclub shooting and expressed sadness over the fact that unlike in the past the victim’s families were not ashamed to claim their dead family members.[26][27] He wants the death penalty for LGBTQAI+ and ministers that perform same-sex marriages should be stoned to death.[28][29] AIDS is God’s revenge and will be cured by killing every single homosexual person.[30][31] Gay people are paedophiles.[32] IVF is used by the LGBTQAI+ community to have children to prey on.[32] Homosexuality is Zsuientifically proven to be a choice and those “sodomites” recruit through rape and molestations in schools and day cares.[33][34][35][36] Once you turned into an animal by choosing to be gay you can never be saved. Steven Anderson once held a Make America Straight Again conference and another time he told a gay reporter he hoped he’d die of brain cancer.[37][38] Gay people run the US (but depending on who they hate more any given day, sometimes it’s the Jews/shadow government).[39] Transgender people are an abomination.[40]
Their anti-Semitism and Holocaust denying
Once, Steven Anderson tricked Holocaust survivors into appearing in an anti-Semitic and Holocaust-denying Film.[41] Jews are not God’s chosen people, they are some of the most immoral people in the world.[42][43] Dark forces were responsible for the founding of Israel
While at one point Zsucifer acknowledged that the Nazi regime had murdered 6 million Jews[44], she later stated that there were no trains full of Jews brought to extermination camps and that there were no gas chambers. According to that statement, only a fraction of 6 million people died indirectly due to being mistreated during WW2, a mistreatment that was necessary and normal for war.[45]
Raising the children
To Train Up A Child is unnecessarily tough is it breaks a child’s will.[46] You are supposed to spank your child from at around age one (a guesstimate by me based on different posts).[47] Zsu claims she dislikes spanking but is really blasé about it, casually mentioning that Isaac had a sore bum after trying to strangle John as a child.[48][49] If they are out and the kids misbehave they get tallies put on their hands and spanked according to those at home.[50]
Zsu seems to feed her children a healthy amount of organic food, but the diet is quite carb heavy and their fridges and freezers are locked between meals.[51][52] Sister mumming is done by both girls and boys and Solomon is Anna’s favourite parent.[53] You should not teach your kids to share, because that teaches them to be communist. The child that has to share gets taught that stealing in form of taxes is okay, the one that gets to share will turn into a welfare recipient.[54][55]
Gender roles
Women should not have the right to vote, to seek divorce or to work outside the home.[56] It’s okay though for Zsu to work multiple jobs from home.[57][58][59][60][61] In order to write a cook book, Zsu actually got a woman to move in with her and take care of the kids, but they are totally not affected by her working.[62] A man’s work is much more important than a women’s.[63]
If your husband is abusive or threatening to kill you, you have to stay with him. It’ll teach your kids to make a better choice
If the chores get too much, just have your kids do them. Once Miriam was brought on vacation with Zsu and Steven just so that she could mind the baby.[65] In the words of Steven:
„If my wife asks me to do something like take out the trash, I tell her to have one of the kids do it. I didn’t sire nine children, so I could take out the trash or pick up after the family dog."
If your husband does something that falls into your jurisdiction you better make damn sure to thank him and don’t you dare criticise him for doing it wrong[66]
Girls should never become preachers, judges, police officers or military personnel, they should get married, have kids and be a stay at home mum.[67] Dads and big brothers are there to protect a girls virginity, and Steven goes out on one on one dates with his daughters.[68][69]
Steven thinks women shouldn’t view it as their duty to have sex with their husbands but they need to help him avoid temptation by „being available to meet [their husband’s] needs“.[70] Steven compares the relationship between husband and wife to that of employer and employee
Home-schooling
Day care/schools/counselling/Sunday schools are all run by paedophiles and child abusers; they are also full of drugs, alcohol and bad peers.[71][72] Day care causes SIDS.[73] You should not leave your children out of sight, but it’s okay to use church goers to look after your children and clean your house for free.[74] For Steven, the avoidance of those institutions seems to be about control, as he can’t control what’s being said there.
The bible commands you to home-school your kids. Traditional school work should be limited to 40 minutes a day and subjects the kids don’t like don’t have to be covered.[75] There’s a three month break whenever a new baby comes along.[77] Once your children are able to read you don’t have to actively teach them anymore[78]
College is overrated and worthless. Anything taught at college can be learned through apprenticeships and reading. If you do want to have a job that requires a degree, you should go to a private college without “diversity training”[79]
Modesty/Dating/Marriage
Skirts only (PJ pants seem to be okay), shoulders may be shown.[80][81][82] Modesty means you should blend into society.[83] Girls have to have long hair and boys have to have short hair.[84]
Kids get to choose their own partners from a pre-approved pool. Zsu once mentioned she thinks it’s nice for girls to wear purity ring. Courting and dating are the same thing and unmarried couples should either be supervised or dating in public spaces. Their rule of thumb for what is okay before marriage is if you wouldn’t do it with someone of the own gender, don’t do it with the opposite gender. There should be no physical contact except for normal, everyday gestures. You should be in love with your partner prior to marriage.[85][86]
There are diseases that are not STDs, but are unheard of in virgins getting married - unfortunately Steven Anderson doesn’t name those. It’s okay to sleep with a few people if your spouse dies and you get remarried. However, sleeping with hundreds of people is wrong, because our bodies were not created to exchange bacteria with that many people.[87]
Reproductive rights
A Zsucientifial Study proves that 90 % of OB/GYNs are male, 100 % of those are perverts, so 90 % of OB/GYNs are perverts.[88] OB/GYNs only choose that career in order to prey on victims.[89] But essential oils are the amazing.[90][91]
Abortion is the American Holocaust[92] (though since the Holocaust didn’t happen according to them that leaves me a bit confused). Abortion includes IVF and birth control. IVF is perverse because you are getting impregnated by another man (a doctor).[93] NFP is wrong because it defrauds your husband and he would have to abstain for longer than the bible allows.[94] Condoms are unbiblical because they prevent husband and wife from becoming one flesh.[95] Birth control is the reason for high divorce rates and leads to you choosing the wrong partner.[96][97]
Zsu doesn’t seem to believe in infertility, as in the bible every single woman that prayed for a child had one in the end.[98]
They openly admit to only care about unborn lives as Steven is in favour of cutting financial support for drug addicts and “whores”.[99] He has to work for endless hours to pay “every lazy whore who lives on welfare” and “her bastard children” that obviously all have different fathers[100]
Racism and Slavery
In the words of Zsucifer:
“People in Africa live like animals and sleep with everyone and everything that moves.“.
White people are not the dominant society in the US. POC are the racists. Black activists teach black people to be dependent on the government, they should just tell them that everyone has to work hard to make a living.[101] POC should not hide behind being less privileged, believing in God would give them all the privilege they need. POC should accept that we can’t all look like God
When one of Zsu’s readers told her it’s offensive to call Native Americans Indians and she should refer to them as „First People“ or „Native Americans“ she played stupid and said she didn’t recall Adam and Eve being Cherokee.
Slavery is good, because the bible says so. If you have a slave, you should beat your slave. Slavery is better than sending debtors to prison.[102] Their love for slavery might be the reason they hate Abraham Lincoln.[103]

  1. Number and rate of new cases - 14 days of the numbers decrease. This is also the White House’s guidance. Everybody agrees this is what we should be doing. I will tell you we will not know it the day it starts. We need to rely on data. So remember, this is important. We will be able to make some small steps before the 14 days of decrease. A lot of those steps will start in our healthcare industry. It’s a controlled environment we can learn from.

2019.12.13 22:20 welfordwigglesworth Proposing back to fiancé?

This isn't really wedding-related per-se but I didn't know where to post it.
My wonderful fiancé has jokingly mentioned before that he's jealous I get to wear a ring and he doesn't get an engagement ring. We got engaged over the summer while I was working in the UK and he came to visit me, though we had always discussed it happening in NYC, where we live.
I wouldn't change anything about the way he did it, but when he told me what his original plan was, I have to admit I got a little FOMO! Every year we go to the Nutcracker Ballet as a tradition--his family goes every year and he's made it a yearly thing for us as well. Our first year together, he showed me the beaded curtains in Lincoln Center and very cheesily said "I think there's supposed to be one bead for every person in New York City." He pointed to two of them and said "See those? That's us." That was such a memorable night for us for a lot of reasons and I get misty just thinking about it, even though it's cheesy!
The other day he told me that if he hadn't come to the UK and done it there, he would have done it in front of the beaded curtains at the ballet, which we are seeing on Thursday. That gave me an idea--what if I got him a ring and proposed back to him in front of the beaded curtains like he had planned to do all along?
Has anyone here "proposed back" to their partner? What are your thoughts?
Sorry again if this doesn't quite fit the theme of the page!

2019.11.25 10:40 NSIMods November 25th, 2019: DarthVarda Interview

Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Colorado, am an aspiring polyglot, and split my time between Denver, D.C., Seattle, and Tokyo.
When did you first become interested in horror?
My mom is Japanese. She has some crazy ghost stories about growing up in Matsudo-shi. Some of the best I’ve ever heard. So, I guess you could say it just runs in my blood?
Can we hear one of those ghost stories now?
Sure, why not. When she was a little girl, my mom would go to and from school alone. To get there she’d have to ride the train a decent amount of time. One day, she noticed a woman following her from the train station back to her house. The woman looked…wrong. Long, unkempt hair, sallow skin, sad eyes. The woman always mysteriously disappeared when my mom turned the corner to get into her house. Finally, after a couple days of this happening, my mom went crying to her haha (mom), my obaachan (grandma), and told her everything. Well, my obaachan gets this look on her face and is like, “No, no, no. Don’t look at her, don’t speak with her, not ever.” Finally, it just stopped, and my mom never saw the woman again. Later on, when my mom was older, she asked my obaachan about it and, apparently, a couple years before my mom and her family moved to Matsudo, a woman drowned herself in the well just outside their house. Her body was fished out, given a sōshiki, and cremated, and the well was filled in, but I guess that woman never really left. Spooky shit, man.
Holy cow, that is scary! No wonder you became a horror author. Was there a specific moment you knew you wanted to write in that genre?
My mom let me watch The Exorcist when I was, like, six. Pretty sure that did some damage. Horror is so universal. It’s such a visceral emotion—fear.
Where do you find inspiration? Have real life experiences ever made their way into your work?
Folklore, mainly. And, yeah, definitely. Especially unresolved mysteries. I guess you could say the work the FBI does is, uh, very close to my heart.
Mhmm, we see. jots down "Is possibly a secret agent" on our detective notepad So, uh, what unresolved mystery do you find most fascinating?
Well, technically, I am a public/civil servant who does work for the government, but, unfortunately, I’m neither a secret nor special agent. At least, not yet. Perhaps one day. Maybe.
There’s a fair few unresolved mysteries I find quite fascinating (albeit horribly tragic), particularly cold cases of missing persons. But I won’t get into those on here as I wouldn’t be able to do them justice or maintain the level of respect I think they deserve. So, I’ll stick to this one: Captain Kutchie’s Key Lime Pies. There’s an extremely well written deep dive on this you can find here. It’s just…bizarre.
How did you discover NoSleep? What prompted you to begin writing for it?
Can't remember, actually. The fact that there were no prompts. For me, freedom begets creativity.
Speaking of which, you used to post frequently on /WritingPrompts. Was there anything about that structure you found preferable to NoSleep?
Gotta be honest here, very little about WritingPrompts appeals to me anymore. Back then it was just a way for me to get some words out.
Did you know you would be sharing Cooper's story with us on Nosleep from the beginning? How far in advance did you have his world planned out?
I did. I had it planned out pretty far in advanced. I also knew I wanted to have interconnected stories because I really love world building. Between us, I did have an entirely different trajectory planned out for the plot; basically, I was slowly going to explain what exactly the “black goo” named “Legion” really is, but I nixed it in favor of bringing in The Overseer. My original plan could (and probably will) come back later on. Possibly in a longer format, say a book?
What NoSleep stories and/or authors have had the strongest impact on you?
The Strangest Security Tape I’ve Ever Seen by [deleted] (I know who it’s by, but they did delete their account so I’d like to be respectful of that fact). It’s, in two words, fucking genius.
What's the most terrifying thing you've personally experienced?
Almost dying.
What are some of your biggest influences from media?
Everything from video games to comics to books to movies to TV shows. If I had to choose a single creator from each category though, they'd be, respectively: Miyamoto Shigeru; Jonathan Hickman; Terry Pratchett; Joel OR Ethan Coen; Vince Gilligan.
Other than writing, what are some of your hobbies? What other creative mediums do you enjoy?
Playing video games, reading, stargazing, watching shit, cooking, ranting about conspiracies, and investigative research. Uh, I like to paint.
You've shared some of that love of cooking with readers on your subreddit by posting recipes. Do you have any good recipes for the impending holidays?
Oh, yeah, got just the thing. This’ll be sure to spice up any dreaded familial interactions or help you sink smoothly into those soul crushing moments of existential crises you’ll probably definitely have during this holiday season. All you’ll need is some ice, a glass, some Coke, some Jack Daniels, and your fingers for measuring how strong you want it.
Do you ever explore writing other genres besides horror? If so, what other styles of writing? Which do you prefer?
Yeah, so, I actually don’t consider myself a horror writer. At least, not really, and definitely not in the traditional sense. Most of my non-Reddit stories are science fiction and fantasy, and they're pretty hard and high at that. Which, honestly, is kinda strange since my mentor (as in the guy who taught me the craft for years) is Stephen Graham Jones and one of his good friends is Joe R. Lansdale. Got to shoot the shit with Joe a couple times in workshop. It was wonderful. What do I prefer? Huh, that’s a tough one, but I’d say speculative fiction (a cop out, I know).
Do you find sci-fi and fantasy to be something you consciously include in your Cooper series? Is it ever difficult to maintain a balance between horror and other genres?
I’ve found that, for me, fantasy is a tad harder to blend into horror. Horror and sci fi, though, go really well together. Especially if you can manage that “technothriller” format (which, personally, is what I’d classify most of the Cooperverse as). And not particularly. But I am certain that if I ever posted one of my hard science fiction or high fantasy stories that don’t have that splash of horror mixed in, people would be like, “What the fuck?” They’re shockingly different than my Cooptales.
How much time do you spend writing in an average day or week? Do you have any rituals that help you focus?
Eh, it fluctuates depending on my work schedule. Anywhere from nine hours to none. Rituals? Nah.
Have any of your stories ever involved research? If so, what was involved?
Yep. I always start with research. Anything from a quick scroll through Wikipedia to deep dives down internet rabbit holes to actually traveling out and visiting a place.
How do you keep your universe organized? Do you have it mapped out conspiracy wall style like we do?
Man, I’ve talked about making one of these for years, but I move/travel a lot, so I don’t think it’d be feasible. Instead, I have a slew of horrifyingly poorly written notes spanning across several graph books, scraps of paper I’ve scrounged up or found randomly or stolen, notes on my phone when I can’t find paper or a pen, and even, sometimes, my hand or arm until I can find something better to scribble it onto. Mostly, though, it’s all in my head. Probably not the best place for it to be as I tend to lose my mind a lot (forgive me for that terrible joke).
Your story settings span all over the country; is there a location that particularly interests you?
Louisiana.
Many of your stories feature different cryptids or government conspiracies. Are there any that you'd like to cover and haven't yet?
Yes, several.
Are there any topics you feel are too controversial for you to address or that you prefer not to explore in your writing?
On Reddit? Definitely. Outside of Reddit? Nope.
What are your feelings toward NoSleep's immersion/believability rule? What impact, if any, do you think the suspension of disbelief format may have when transitioning your work toward a mass audience unfamiliar with NoSleep?
Oh, uh, well, at the risk of sounding like a total asshole, I think it’s cute. Do I think the suspension of disbelief format will have an impact if I ever transition my work towards a mass audience? Honestly, no clue. Not nearly even close to touching a mass audience yet. But, I mean, I don't think so. I think consuming something fictional—be it through text or through a screen—will always have that suspension of disbelief factor surrounding it, you know?
Do you have any favorite reader reactions to your writing?
Yeah, the lady who thought I was Cooper in real life and DM’d me asking me to impregnate her. Gotta good chuckle outta that one. That said, people really seem to want to ride Coop's, uh, Ducati. It's absolutely hilarious to me.
Readers have truly embraced Cooper and his cohorts, and are extremely active in your sub dedicated to him, /SuperCooperCanon. What is it about the character that you think resonated so strongly with the community?
Honestly, no idea. I mean, I know I wrote the guy to be “objectively hot”, but attractive people aren’t always that interesting or likable. So, maybe it’s his devil may care attitude and sense of humor that people connect with? He’s also pretty self-reliant and confident and not afraid to show that, yes, a “tough guy” can (and does) cry/show emotions/empathize.
Occasionally, you've referenced users' comments on one story in the next, or included hints and codes that tie certain stories together. Are there any major Easter eggs you wish your readers would crack?
Yeah, probably. I mean, I recently went back and reread all the stories (including all the supplementals) in the ‘verse in one sitting (took me a short six hours, there’s around 300,000 words) and even I was like, “Well, shit, totally forgot I was supposed to be doing something with that…my bad.” So, I can’t really hold anything against anyone for not catching everything.
What story or project are you most proud of?
You mean besides all the shit involving Spooky McSpooks? Because it’s that. I mean, the asshole has the name of a goddamn dog yet somehow still manages to be the smoothest guy in the room? C’mon.
You recently revealed the relationship between Cooper and Elle. Considering his last romantic interest is out of the running, will Cooper ever find love? waggles eyebrows
Oh…uh…shit…I plead the fifth. I will say this, though, someone I know in real life has been all but begging me to write a “Cooprotica” for ages now. Will I do it? I don’t know. If I did, I’d cringe so hard I’d turn into a black hole and consume the entire galaxy.
There have been Cooper sightings since the 1980s, leading fans to speculate that either these were of his father or that Cooper is somehow ageless. Can you shed any light on which theory is correct?
Sure. It’s his “dad”.
In The Mojave Phone Booth, '80s Cooper has The Overseer's outfit in his car. Does this mean what we think it does...?
Probably.
There's an isolated cabin with a locked door that Elle doesn't particularly want to talk about. Do we catch a glimpse of what happened there in My first job was at a video rental store?
Sure did.
Cooper had a falling out with a squadmate that went by Shepherd. Was this at all related to the two agents that have been out to get him?
Kinda? I think he was more disappointed in Coop than anything else. There are things they’ve said to each other that I haven’t shown yet. Shep is an interesting guy. His story arc isn’t over.
Which installment in the series was your favorite to write so far? What set that one apart?
Oh, shit. This is a tough one. I’ve got a lot of favorites, mainly because the first person I write them for is myself, and I’m an idiot who giggles at my own dumb jokes I intersperse throughout them, like, a lot. But, if I absolutely had to chose one, I’d say…shit. This is hard. Huh. Uhhh. I don’t know? Maybe my most recent one? Just because that fucker was long. So long I ran outta character space and had to put part of it over on my subreddit as a “supplemental” even though it was part of the same story. I’m also pretty fond of my DIA story and the Bridgewater Triangle one. Also, the ones from Mrs. Popov’s perspective. And all the stories surrounding “The Hollow” (Inbred Family, Shit for Brains, Chekhov’s Bazooka, Unexpected Forces).
You've mentioned working on adapting the Cooperverse into novel form. Have you experienced any unexpected challenges or advantages during that process? How has writing with the intent of being published differed from posting to Reddit?
Man, I’m like the boy who cried wolf with those novel promises, huh? But, yes, the short, simple answer is yes. The long answer is, well, long. And I feel like I have to be extremely careful here since people can get, uh, very touchy about publishing, especially when it comes to being traditionally published versus independently published versus self-published. Truth be told, I don’t know how comfortable I am with answering these questions. So, I guess, that’s one of the biggest challenges: Trying to speak about the ins and outs of getting published in a way that won’t offend or piss off anyone else?
Man, honestly, this is something I have a lot to say about but have never felt comfortable doing so.
Sorry.
How much do we have to bribe you to publish a book of the series as it's laid out now, an anthology of everyone's encounters with Cooper?
Unfortunately, money (and most material possessions) ain’t a thang to me, so I can’t be bought. In all seriousness, though, it just doesn’t feel right charging money for things people can consume for free, you know? And even if I did put anything out there that was purchasable, I’m a perfectionist, so it’d have to be spiffed up, like, a lot. That’d take some time.
What's the most valuable lesson you've learned since you began posting to NoSleep?
"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness; that is life."
As a successful author on NoSleep, do you have any advice for new contributors?
Be careful. Attention and ephemeral internet points can be (and often are) highly addictive. And addiction is bad, mmkay?
What are your short-term and long-term writing goals?
Short term: Write.
Long term: Keep writing.
Community Questions:
From MagpieRhymes: Where did you inspiration for Cooper et al come from? Did he arrive in your mind, fully-formed, or did it take time to develop his story?
He’s an amalgamation of a lot of things. Both folks I know in real life and characters like (in no particular order) Leon Scott Kennedy, Hermione Granger, Samus, Geralt of Rivia, Master Chief, Fox Mulder, Aloysius XL Pendergast, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, StrideAragorn II, Ellen Ripley, Jim Hopper, Lyra Belacqua, Sam Vimes, Link, Dale Cooper, and so on and so forth. I always knew that Coop was, first and foremost, going to be a smartass, but it did take a little bit of time to develop him into who he is now. His “personality” is subject to change, though, since I’m trying to make him as round of a character as I possibly can.
Submitted anonymously: Your Cooperverse stories are amazing. They're like a Lovecraftian Twilight Zone X-Files mashup, but better. How do you keep your plotlines from getting away from you? And what is your inspiration for the Overseer? Thank you so much for sticking with the stories for so long. Sincerely, a longtime fan
Whoa, damn, slow down there, buddy. Uh, first of all, fucking thank you. That’s high praise. Those are definitely three of my favorite things. Better, though? I dunno about that. And, hey, thanks for sticking with me so long, fucking flattered, man. Second, I honestly don’t know how I maintain all the plotlines. I guess I just have a knack for it? And some pretty badly written notes. Third, huh, what an interesting question. He’s kinda like The Smoking Man mixed with Vader mixed with a maniacal comic-book villain.
Submitted anonymously: Do you ever get tired of writing Cooper, or feel limited to only posting in that realm? Have you ever posted from an alt account?
Never posted from an alt account, scout’s honor; only have one reddit account because that’s all I can handle (I’m a bit of a technophobe). To answer your second question, well
So, Coop is really fun to write and I’m a huge dork for conspiracies, but do I feel limited? A little. I mean, people pretty much only know me as that one asshole who only writes about that one asshole who always “saves” the day. And, despite trying to break from that trend, I can’t really blame ‘em. It’s entirely my fault; I’ve shoehorned myself into that position. This has limited me in two ways: people who, uh, aren’t particularly fond of me don’t actually believe I can write anything else, but then when I’ve tried to (and try I have), people who do like me quite a bit are upset that it’s not a Coop story. Fucked if I do, fucked if I don’t, you know?
Submitted anonymously: I love your work so much! Thank you for writing such great characters. Do you have a mental dream cast of who you'd like to see play any of them?
Hey, thanks, I’m truly honored. And thank you for your readership! That said, yeah, I do for some of my characters, but not all of the people I could see “as them” are professional actors or public figures I could freely name. If the Cooperverse ever went somewhere, you know, “big”, whoever plays Coop would probably have to be a complete unknown since there’s really no one currently working I could see playing him. Or, I’d have to do what Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child did with Pendergast in the movie adaptation of their book Relic and take him out completely. That’s no fun.
From EbilCrayons: When you first started writing for nosleep did you have ambitions of becoming populasuccessful or did it take you by complete surprise?
I mean, I’d take “populasuccessful” with a grain of goddamn salt, it’s not like I’m raking in the updoots over here. But, I will say, I do have a very dedicated fan base—(shit, I feel like a giant asshole with a giant head tootin’ my goddamn horn and it makes me uncomfortable as hell)—to whom I owe a lot to and am very fond of; seriously, they’re all fucking amazing. So, yeah, that kinda took me by surprise.
Submitted anonymously: Do you see any similarities between yourself and Cooper or any of your other characters?
I’ve always said that I’m nothing like Coop, but my good friends (who know me pretty well) all insist that I am. So, I guess I do? Not to (once again) toot my own horn or anything, but I’ve been told by a decent number of people that I’m fairly attractive and witty. Waitresses, people on the street, my coworkers, even teachers have all (at one time or another) called me cute and funny and shit, and it’s embarrassing as fuck. Also, I’m willing to bet that both people in real life who don’t like me and who do would absolutely all agree on one thing: that I’m a huge smartass. Always gotta be quippin’ about something or at someone with this dumb shit eating grin on my face. But, personally, I’d say I’m most like Coop’s Ducati or Scrambles. His Ducati because my words are essentially the “vehicle” he rides from plot point to plot point. Scrambles because—as cringe as this sounds—Coop kinda saved me too.
Submitted anonymously: If you were able to spend the day with any figure in the horror community (author, director, actor, etc.), who would you choose and why?
John Carpenter. Because he’s a fucking geniusman, that’s why.
Submitted anonymously: Your house is on fire, and your family is safe outside. What book do you grab before joining them?
Fuck. Shit. Uh…fuck. Shit. I’ll come back to this one. Shit came back to it and still don’t know. Fuck. Hold on. Okay, went and looked through all my books (and comics), and, I mean, I could say something cool like, “Oh, my first edition copy of Insert Discworld Novel Here,” or something smartassy like, “Oh, the Bible haha j/k 69 420,” or something clever like, “Embracing Defeat because it’s such an important deep dive into pre and post war Japan,” but, honestly, I’m gonna have to go with Still Life with Crows. Sure, it’s not the greatest book in the world and certainly not the most well-known, but goddamn I fucking love that fucking book.
Submitted anonymously: Would you/have you ever collaborate(d) with anyone else on nosleep? Is there anyone you'd like to work with?
I haven’t. I’m quite shy. Also, very busy. I wouldn’t want to let anyone (or, worse, multiple people) down by agreeing to do something I wouldn’t be able to follow through on. Of course I do, but, again, I’m shy and I fear mentioning anyone by name would put me in a precarious position of either them being like, “Let’s do it,” and then me just not being able to or (more likely), them recoiling in disgust and saying, “No. Absolutely not. And never, ever utter my username ever again.”
From Knoxx899: I feel like the Super Cooper series would make an awesome graphic novel, wouldn't you agree?
I would absolutely agree.
Submitted anonymously: Favorite guilty pleasure?
Haha, oh man oh man.
So, a year or so ago I had this awesome coworker who was, oddly enough, really into reading romance novels. And, I mean, not gonna shit on them (too much) for that, people can read whatever the fuck they want (so long as it’s not really hurting anyone else, of course). Well, one day, because I’m a smartass with a shit eating grin who won’t shut the fuck up at work, they dared me to read one.
They were all like, “Hey, DV, bet you can’t finish one of these, you fucking goddamn asshole of a person.” They knew I’m a voracious reader who will read just about anything, especially if someone does that whole reverse psychology shit on me. So, I was all like, “Oh, you’re on,” and I did.
It was titled, shit you not, Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas. And it was about, again shit you fucking not, an unbelievably sexy writer who, as a child, was bitten by a wolf shifter. Yep, you read that correctly. So, because of this, she has to isolate herself and is all sad and lonely and like, “Oh, woe is me, my fertility clock is ticking,” because, you know, every so often she turns into a goddamn wolf and also, as I’m sure everyone is well aware, all women care/think about is having babies.
Well, enter hot as motherfucking hell private investigator, Owen, who—fucking surprise—is also a wolf shifter. If I remember correctly, he can smell when she’s “in heat” or something ridiculous. Anyway, so begins his attempts to woo her to join his pack and have his, uh, pups. It was godawful, but it was also, at the same time, absolutely fucking hilarious. Unintentionally of course.
I went on to read another book by this same author called SEAL Wolf in Too Deep. As you might’ve guessed, it’s about an ex-Navy SEAL who’s a wolf shifter (you can’t see it but I’m fucking cracking up as I’m writing this). He’s all hot as hell and broken and sad and shit and his (unbelievably attractive and I think much younger) police partner is like, “Oh, b-but senpai…I-I can heal your broken heart.”
Godawful, just the worst, funniest fucking shit I’ve ever read.
This lady, Terry Spear, apparently has a couple different series going on; some have Navy SEALs who shift into wolves, some are just billionaires who shift into wolves, some are bad boys who shift into—get this—cougars, some are just those terribly exotic Highlanders who are hot and rugged and ripped and (only sometimes) shift into wolves.
Next on my list is Between a Wolf and a Hard Place. Because, I mean, with a title like that how could I not read it? C’mon.
And now you know all my secrets.

This is always subject to change, so don’t judge me too harshly.
“I was runnin’ down the road, tryin’ to loosen my load, got seven women on my mind, four that wanna own me, two that wanna stone me, one said she’s a friend of mine.”
Fun fact: I’ve actually stood on that corner in Winslow, Arizona. Yep. I seriously made the drive out there specifically because of that song. Literally all I did was drive all the way out there, stand on the corner as mysteriously as I could manage before hopping back into my car and taking off. Aren’t I quirky as shit?
Submitted anonymously: Which actor who's played James Bond do you think would be the best job at portraying Cooper?
Okay, so, here’s the thing, I see people saying this a lot, that Coop is like James Bond, and I kinda just laugh because who am I to shit on anyone’s opinions? Well, I’m doing it now. I’m sorry, but I just have to nip this in the bud before it keeps on growin’. Cooper is not at all like James Bond. Sure, there’s maybe like a single thing that is similar between them (being good with weapons), but I hand to heart believe there are many, many more things that set them apart. For one, Coop is decidedly not a womanizer and would always ask for consent. I’d even go as far as to say he’s extremely discerning when it comes to sleeping with people. Him, uh, “wooing” someone would be a pretty rare occurrence. Secondly, Coop doesn’t often kill with extreme prejudice. In fact, he’s more likely to do the opposite and let people go. Third, I specifically made him a beer man to show just how down to earth and unpretentious he really is. Fourth, James Bond is a goddamn psychopath. Yeah, I said it. And I’ve tried to go out of my way to show just how empathetic and caring and concerned Coop really is. (I’m not mad!! You’re mad!) But, if I was forced to choose one, I’d reluctantly say Daniel Craig.
From ByfelsDisciple: What do you think is your most underrated story? Your most overrated?
All of them are both underrated and overrated at the same time because I tend to fluctuate between extreme self-loathing and sickening cockiness.
From Poppy_moonray: Several of your stories take place in the southwest US. As someone who lives there, I can confirm shit gets real weird. Do you have any personal favorite urban legends/mythos from the region?
Shit gets real, real weird out there, don’t it? Well, there’s, of course, all the American Indian lore surrounding the place, but, out of respect for them, I won’t get into that. Rather, I’m gonna say government conspiracies. Shocker, I know. Particularly D.U.M.B.’s. Which are: Deep Underground Military Bases. I may or may not have written about one or two of those...
If you had to live in one of Joe R. Lansdale's literary worlds (a Joe R. Landscape, if you will), which would you choose and why? Would you be an existing character, yourself, or adopt a new identity?
Man, I honestly wouldn’t wanna live in any of that guy’s universes. They’re all so gruesome and unflinching and fucked. But, if I had to choose, probably Batman: The Animated Series. I’d be myself, meaning, I’d probably never even see Batman and my life would essentially be the same ole shit as it is now.
What fruit do you empathize with most strongly? What fruit fills you with an unbridled fury?
This is, uh, an odd question. Huh. This’ll really make or break me as a cool person, won’t it? Well, let me start with the unbridled fury one first. Coconuts. Fucking bastards. They technically can be classified as a fruit, a nut, and/or a seed. What the fuck are you, coconuts? Also, have you ever tried opening one of those fuckers? Emergency room visit waiting to happen. What fruit do I empathize with? Bananas. They look like dicks.
Were they any worthy new additions to your regular spooky October viewing list this year?
Yeah, I didn’t post the list this year because I was busy as hell. Apologies. Candyman was great. So was Halloween II, the part where he walks into the glass and it just fuckin’ shatters had me cracking up. C.H.U.D. was right up my alley as was The Gate. The Invitation was weird and really captured that feeling of social anxiety well. Rosemary’s Baby was real good, possibly the scariest movie I’ve seen in a while (and not just because it was directed by Polanski, that absolute disgusting piece of actual shit). But, I have to say, by far the best movie I’ve watched this year (and during my Halloween viewing) was Troll 2. Holy shit, I cannot describe in words how amazing that movie is. Oh my god, I love it with all my heart. Eddie (Gus’s boy) did a pretty great overview of it, but, honestly, please, please watch it if you ever get a chance.
When stalking you diligently researching for your interview, I came upon this comment you made for /WritingPrompts about a melancholy sentient potato. I have since spent nearly all my waking moments consumed with thoughts about what this potato has been up to. Can we please get a brief follow-up? <3
Hahaha, oh shit. That has to be my crown jewel of my Reddit writing “career”. I love that story. I’d say that the potato went down a dark, spiraling journey of self-discovery and came out the other side covered in weeds and baked as fuuuuuck.
From OnyxOctopus: How do you take your tea? What kind would you like? One lump or two? How many snickerdoodles can I get you? Are you warm enough? If not, I can get you a hand-crocheted afghan! Would you like one?
Cold, unsweetened, mugicha. Though, I’m a big fan of (hot) Earl Grey, matcha, and sencha. Uh, are you offering me cookies? As many I can fit into my face. How soon can you get them to me? Oh, shit. I’d love one, but, please, don’t feel obligated to make one, those look like they take quite a bit of time and I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you at all (it’s beautiful by the way).
Submitted anonymously: What were your influences for writing the Super Cooper series? Obviously the parallels to Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks are very obvious (I mean even the name is the same LOL!) But what influenced you to write such a long series in this sort of world with this much scope? I could see the series going on forever and would love if it did so!
You know that quote, and I’m paraphrasing here, be the person you needed when you were younger? Well, I felt like I couldn’t be that person, so, I wrote him. I’ve had my fair share of hardships and I’ve also seen some fucked up shit. The world can be a bad, bad, disgusting, unfair, evil place. So, just knowing that someone was out there doing whatever he could to make the world a teeny tiny bit better—even if he wasn’t actually real—cheered me right the fuck up. And I think others have picked up on that; I’ve gotten quite a few DM’s telling me how much Coop and his escapades have cheered them up as well. So, I guess that influenced me?
Hey, forever’s a long time now. Hopefully, I’ll be able to manage that.
Submitted anonymously: I mostly just wanted to say that Cooper's stories have really distracted me from studying for my finals but I still wouldn't change a thing, thank you!! What's the most fun thing you've gotten to do lately?
You’re very welcome, but, shit, go study for your finals! My stories will be waiting for you in the meantime. So, my friends got me a bunch of video games recently for a thing, been playing those during any downtime I have. They’re all quite fun. (Disco Elysium, Untitled Goose Game, Pony Island, The Hex, Night in the Woods, Overcooked, and Wargroove.)
From HateyMcHateFace: When is the super cooper book coming out and please make it so I can get it in Brazil? Also, how are you? Hope you’re doing great. Cheers.
When it comes out, I’ll personally ship you one, how’s that? I’m just short of perfect, man, hope you’re doing great as well.
Submitted anonymously: Have you thought about releasing book collections of the Canon? I'd love to have Coop in my library, and it would be easier to make my friends read it if I could buy them a physical copy.
Haha, for fuck’s sake, people, I get it! You want a book. I’m flattered as hell and also deeply sorry it’s taken me so long to get it out there, but, I have to say, please don’t force anyone to read anything, not even the Cooperverse. That said, of course I’ve thought about releasing a book collecting all of the canon. Will I do it? Eh. I’m not really keen on charging anything for words I’ve plastered online for free. But, I am working on something else that just might be worth a few dollars and some change. Promise it’ll be worth the wait.
Submitted anonymously: Which of your stories has been the most difficult to write, and why?
I think the most recent ones (the ones I’ve been writing after my long, uh, “hiatus”). Coop’s really been experiencing “the dark night of the soul.” He’s gone from, “Hey, I can do this,” to “Hey, this is all sorts of fucked up and maybe, just maybe, I can’t do anything at all.” Real wake up call for him. Hope he comes out the other side okay.
From _Pebcak_: Who shot first—Han or Greedo?
Oh ho ho. So, in the original version of Star Wars IV: A New Hope, Han Solo is forced over to a table at blasterpoint in the local cantina by Greedo--one of Jabba the Hut's minions. Greedo is there to bring Han to Jabba (or extort him) and, during their enitre conversation, has his blaster pointed at Han. Well, they have their little chat and then, suddenly, Han quick-draws his own blaster and shoots Greedo point blank in the chest, killing him.
Now, in the 20th anniversary rerelease, Lucas did was Lucas does best and fucked this all up, uh, I mean, "remastered" this. The above scene is edited (badly) to show Greedo firing first, and missing at point blank range. Not only does this make him look incredibly incompetent, it ruins the tension because Greedo can't hit shit with a blaster. I mean, he's like two feet away! Han was never in any real danger if Greedo misses from two feet away! But, more than that, it fucking obliterates Han's entire character development. Han is a rogue, he's no hero. By having him shoot first we learn this real fast; Han doesn't give a shit about fighting fair or for honor. He plays by his own rules, you know, as rogues do. His main motivator is looking out for a single thing: Himself. By changing the scene, Lucas effectively neuters this fact and turns Han into just another cliched hero archetype.
That's not Han.
Han shot first.
Han always shot first.
The "remastered" version can suck it.
Submitted anonymously: What question did you want to be asked that didn’t get asked?
I’m honestly surprised no one has asked if I’m a chick or a dude. My response to that would, of course, be: Does it matter?
Is it easy writing two stories every time you post? Why have you done this to yourself? Response: It is, in fact, not easy. And because I’m an absolute idiot, that’s why.
If your mom is from Japan, where’s your dad from? Response: North Carolina. Which is probably why most of my stories have that particular “twanged up” style people have come to recognize (well, that and because Stephen and Joe are both from East Texas…it rubbed off on me).
And finally: Why the hell is Coop always at libraries? Response: because he doesn’t have an office and is a huge unapologetic goddamn nerd.
Diggin’ divin’ into Darth's diegesis?

2019.10.30 21:31 Lestalto [Update] Lack of Services in Lincolnshire.

Original post can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/autismUK/comments/daqpat/abysmal_lack_of_services_in_lincolnshire/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Hello all,
I wanted to give an update on my previous post where I ranted about the 'lack' of services there were in Lincoln.
So several weeks after uploading, I finally managed to get in contact with the Lincoln PALs who told me that actually, there was in fact a service, which I confirmed by finding the number for the service and speaking to the lady on the phone.
Both of these two groups (both technically unconnected, so I'm suspecting the GP was at fault) claimed that every doctors in Lincolnshire had been alerted to this service, they should have know it existed and should have been given a basic method for them to consider referring.
As you can assume, I was somewhat pissed.
I was tempted to push again, but after being in contact with a third year who has chronic fatigue who told me that she essentially had the same happen with her issue, and as soon as she moved GPs, she got the help she needed. So I did.
The same day I went to my partner's doctors, put in a request to move and a week later I had officially moved. I also put in a 'practice recommendation', not that I thought they'd act on it,
Last Wednesday, I got an appointment with a doctor who gave me a forum to fill out, I did, went back today and now I've officially been referred.
I wasted a year of waiting, I'm glad I'm finally moving.
I want to thank all of you that commented on my last post, with a major thank you to u/AbysmalAdmin (I hope you don't mind me tagging you.) the encouragement was really helpful as was the advice and I feel happy that I might soon be able to get proper help.

2019.10.13 18:30 youngrichntasteless $200,000/month with a software that automates startups legals [former Head of BBC's iPlayer]

Hey - Pat from StarterStory.com here with another interview.
Today's interview is with Anthony Rose (u/startups101) of SeedLegals, a brand that makes startup legals.
Some stats:

Hello! Who are you and what business did you start?

Hi, I’m Anthony Rose, founder, and CEO of SeedLegals.
SeedLegals is the new way to close your UK funding round. No lawyers, no accountants, everything done on your terms. Our always-on platform, supported by a team of experts lets you raise funding dramatically more efficiently and cost-effectively.
We now close 8% of all UK funding rounds in the UK, and complete 10% of all Advance Assurances with a 97% HMRC approval rate (the market standard being 64%). SeedLegals is the largest, fastest and most reliable closer of rounds in the UK.
image

What's your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?

I used to head up BBC iPlayer. After leaving the BBC, I built a startup -sold it- built another startup -sold it. I then invested in a few startups and got tired of paying lawyers. In a stroke of luck, I met my business partner Laurent Laffy, serial angel investor, and ex-VC.
We got together and decided it was time to transform the way we do funding rounds.
image

Take us through the process of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing your first product.

For a startup, most founders think that the problem is building stuff. Founders are often technical and love to create things. However, experience has taught me that the key problem is getting people to want the things you’ve built, not actually building them.
The idea is to start by creating a minimum viable product to verify whether people actually want what you are building, without spending loads of your own time and money.
For SeedLegals, working on legal agreements, it’s a bit more difficult. You can’t have a minimum viable Shareholder’s Agreement or Articles of Association…
Our strategy mimicked that of a swan, appearing to glide elegantly across the water with some frantic paddling beneath the surface. What I mean is that, when we started SeedLegals, all the consumers could see was a slick website that let you set your deal terms and generated a contract. In reality, behind the scenes, our CLO and team were manually handcrafting things to make sure all of that happened and worked.
Most early-stage startups adopt the ‘fake it till you make it’ approach when they start out. Through significant human effort, you give your users a seamless customer experience. You work this way until you get tired of doing it yourself, and you’ve worked out exactly what the customer is looking for. Then, you use technology to automate everything.
image

Describe the process of launching the business.

When you start a company, you have several problems to solve:
In our case, we knew customers would want automated funding rounds. My co-founder and I were essentially customers ourselves, having both been around for a while. We knew we could fund it, create a team, and build the product.
Interestingly, the big question was not whether customers would want the product, but whether investors and law firms would allow it to be used. Startup founders could have loved SeedLegals but investors may have insisted on using their ‘trusted’ law firm. That was our key problem.
When I work with startups, I want them to focus on finding the key proof point.
It could be that the solution is something technically complicated, if so, can you build it? If it’s easy to build, will people want it? If people want it, are you differentiated enough from your competitors? SeedLegals’ proof point wasn’t whether the customers would want it, but whether investors would allow deals to be completed on it.
I was delighted when I found out that most investors hate the time spent on legal. Often the cap table is a mess, founders know little about funding rounds and have unrealistic expectations.
By having a beautiful automated platform, SeedLegals offered investors a professional set of documents with the ability to e-sign everything online and have all their legal created in no time, all in one place. Founders also get unlimited awesome support at zero extra cost, meaning Investors now deal with founders educated about the process.
An investor investing in a CBD company where traditionally founders are not versed in the process of funding rounds wrote to me that, “whenever I asked my founders for document changes, it took them seconds to update, and they knew everything about the deal terms! So I asked them, ‘who is the muse whispering in your ear,’ and they said SeedLegals... I had to use you guys for my future rounds.”
In fact, angel investors love us! Earlier this year we were named Rising Star Legal Team for Early Stage Deals by the UKBAA.
image

Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?

We currently acquire 1/3 of our new customers through word-of-mouth via customer advocates and partners. We also have virality built into the platform. Whenever a company raises funding, they invite all their investors to sign. That’s up to 30 new eyeballs on your product for every 1 new customer acquired.
It’s led to steady growth of investors who insist on only using SeedLegals for their investments.
Another 1/3 are acquired through content marketing and SEO. We’ve written hundreds of articles designed to help founders go from an idea to getting investment.
Our most successful articles leverage insights we’ve uncovered from the data on SeedLegals. We’re able to dive in and explain things like how to value your company, using real-world anonymized data collected from thousands of similar companies.
That’s something no law firm can do!
image
Worth mentioning, the way we acquire customers has changed substantially over time! In the beginning, we needed to get the word out to founders fast. We sent thousands of cold emails, generating lists from Crunchbase and AngelList.
Around 1% of everyone we contacted through this channel converted to paid customers. We needed a better converting channel.
So the next thing we tried was events. One of the great things about targeting startups is that they hang out in the same places. So we started doing workshops and seminars at workspaces and accelerators. It worked great. Events are still our highest converting channel, with 11% of attendees becoming customers.

How are you doing today and what does the future look like?

In my experience over the years, I like to think of technology solving problems in two phases:
Phase 1: Identify a current pain point, a utility problem you can help somebody do better. No need to change the world. In our case, it was simply that the founders needed to get funding more efficiently, so we helped them do that.
Phase 2: The next step is how can you leverage the network effect. How can you use the customers you’ve got and your expertise to create things that give you a competitive advantage?
Up till now, we’ve been focused on Phase 1 - our website. It simply showcased SeedLegals as the fastest way to close around. There was no mention of Blockchain or smart contracts - it was simple and it solved a problem.
Now we’re focusing on the next step, which consists of two things.
Firstly, in the same way, that TransferWise does ‘borderless banking’, imagine borderless legals! Imagine if you were able to see deal terms across multiple countries on your single interface, all in English and terms you understand.
You’d be able to invest with Terms Sheet and Shareholder’s Agreements you’re familiar with, which are simultaneously rendered in a different language. It can transform the way we invest across Europe. European companies can raise across the continent, and London investors can tap into unlimited foreign enterprises.
Secondly, with a growing percentage of UK startups completing funding rounds on SeedLegals, the next step is capturing both sides of the market: startups and investors. We’re currently working on a version of SeedLegals designed for investors where they can lead with a Term Sheet and negotiate the deal terms in a single interface. We see a future where humans negotiate the deals’ terms and machines generate the legals in seconds, instead of paying a lawyer to spend 3 days doing it manually.
Closing deals this way also creates data showing the market standard for both investors and startups, so they can close on deal terms everyone is happy with, dramatically faster than ever before.

Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

I’ve learned a few things ...Firstly, a founder’s initial perception is generally that building the product is the hard part. In reality, having people want what you’ve created is the issue. Often I see pitch decks and businesses looking for money, but they have no website traffic or users. It’s disappointing when someone has put in so much effort building what looks like an elegant site and a fantastic product, but they’ve got no actual demand for it
Secondly, often startups try to persuade investors by being everything, a B-C business, a B-B business, having APIs, using blockchain and doing a million things at once. In fact, my experience has led me to see that doing one thing well is much better than doing multiple things.
Whenever I see a pitch deck that shows a company being B-C, B-B, and other things, I view it as a negative, not a positive. A pitch deck should have clarity on what their consumer or business proposition is, but not both.
Another thing I’ve seen when people initially create their website is essentially telling people all the things they do and how clever they are. To be honest, nobody cares. Consumers are only interested in what’s in it for them as users. My advice is instead, don’t focus on the techniques and technology of whatever you are building. Focus on how it benefits the user.
For SeedLegals, the first version of our site was all about how we use document automation technology for legal. No one cared. Once I realized that what people wanted to know was we could help them close a funding round faster and cheaper, that became the focus. In fact, there is no mention of the word ‘legal’ or ‘automation’ on the home page. It’s all about looking at the problems consumers have and how you solve them.

What platform/tools do you use for your business?

We use quite a few, so here are everyone's favourites:

What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?

The book that I regularly recommend and the one that I keep thinking about is The Mum Test. The name comes from the fact that generally when you have an idea, you don't know if it’s good or not, so you ask people. One of those people might be your mother. “Hey mum, I've got this amazing AI-powered bicycle lock with GPS tracking, is it a good idea?”. Of course, your mother would say, “my son is so clever, of course, it’s a good idea.”
However, this brings up two problems. Firstly, you’ve asked the wrong audience. Your mum doesn’t ride a bicycle and isn’t interested in a GPS enabled AI lock, and secondly, you’ve asked the question in the wrong form, “imagine if this would be brilliant!” when in fact you should be asking “have you ever looked for such a thing?” If people say, “mmm not really,” that’s a good indicator of two potential things. One could be that you've created something so revolutionary that no one’s looked for it, however, the second and more likely scenario is that there’s no real market need. You may build it and no one will come.
So The Mum Test is named on the basis that you’ve asked your mother to validate your product. Instead, if you ask your possible audience, and they say “yes I’ve looked for such a product. I found three of them, two don’t work, and one is very expensive.” At that point, you know that you have a technical or price point advantage, which if you can hit, you have a market.

Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Our data shows you’re going to be putting a median $32,000 of your own money into the product before you can raise investment, so make sure you are able to fund it yourself. Some people put in a lot more, but the idea is that nobody invests on a powerpoint.
You need to have built something, a prototype or minimum viable product, something to demo to investors to show that there is something tangible to work with. Ironically the best way to be a founder is to have sold a previous company and have enough money to fund the new one!
Be aware that it may be several years until you see the value created and you should perhaps expect to be with the company for 5 years before you potentially have an exit.
You may get lucky and get an exit sooner, or you may not have an exit but grow the business to be cash flow positive and not need one. However, broadly your goal might be over three funding rounds to raise 3-5x the amount of the last round, at 3-5x the valuation. In this way, after 3 rounds, your business either doesn’t need more investment or you’re ready to be acquired which offers a nice return for everybody!

Are you looking to hire for certain positions right now?

We are a great startup with a wonderful office in Holborn overlooking (rather ironically) Lincoln Inn fields amongst all the law firms. We’re growing our team in all directions and need a range of talents from law grads and salespeople to Java and Angular developers to join us!
We would love to talk to the smartest people that understand startups, funding and perhaps have a legal degree, but are looking for something other than a law firm in their future.
